I was saddened today when I read the announcement from the Grand lodge of Oklahoma’s Facebook page:
“It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Dr. Jim Tresner early this morning. Arrangements will be announced as soon as they are available.”
I wasn’t shocked when I read this but not surprised. I had heard Jim was near death and it was just a matter of time. Freemasonry has lost a real giant among men.
Brother Tresner was one of my all time favorite Masonic writers. Jim wrote for the average man. I wouldn’t be lying if I was to say my writing style has been influenced by James Tresner.
I never got to meet Brother Tresner personally. I was able to see him speak once at the Scottish Rite temple in Guthrie. I thought about walking up and shaking his hand after his talk but I was such a fan boy I couldn’t muster the courage to say hello to one of my idols. I fear I will regret that for years to come.
“Well done, good and faithful servant”
